What can we do?
We live in a consumer society and waste natural resources. From an ecological point of view, we cannot afford to do this in the long term. But for the present moment, only a few of us will radically adopt an alternative lifestyle. Hence the term update: a search for options and possibilities of improvement within the present system. There are many of these updates, and they not only have a local impact, but also global repercussions. The Western way of life is the model for the booming nations of East Asia and South America. We must therefore develop a sustainable lifestyle that is both appealing and environmentally friendly – socially as well as ecologically. UPDATING GERMANY presents examples from different fields of consumption.
